The Synology RX418 is a dedicated storage expansion unit designed for compatible Synology RackStation NAS systems. Its 1U rackmount chassis contains four drive bays, allowing additional SATA storage to be connected to the host NAS while maintaining a compact rack-based installation.
The RX418 supports 3.5 inch SATA hard disk drives, 2.5 inch SATA hard disk drives and 2.5 inch SATA solid state drives. The four drive bays support hot-swappable drives, making it possible to replace compatible drives without requiring the expansion unit to be removed from the rack. RAID management is handled through Synology DiskStation Manager when connected to a supported Synology NAS.
Connection to the compatible RackStation is provided through one eSATA expansion port. Once connected, drives installed in the RX418 can operate as part of the connected Synology storage environment and can be managed directly through DSM. The unit can also be used as a dedicated local backup destination for compatible Synology RackStation systems.
The 1U chassis measures 44 mm high, 430.5 mm wide and 290 mm deep without rack mounting kits. With the server ears fitted, the dimensions are 44 mm high, 480 mm wide and 325 mm deep. The RX418 weighs 4.28 kg and uses three 40 mm x 40 mm x 20 mm system fans for cooling.
The Synology RX418 provides a straightforward way to increase storage capacity on compatible Synology RackStation systems while maintaining a compact rackmount design.
Storage capacity expansion
When the storage capacity on Synology 1U RackStation reaches its limit, Synology expansion unit RX418 provides easy capacity expansion by adding 4 3.5"/2.5" SATA drives to the system. Synology RX418 can also be used as a dedicated local backup destination of Synology 1U RackStation for comprehensive data protection.
Reliable plug-and-play design
Simply connect Synology RX418 to corresponding Synology RackStation and it is ready to use. Drives in the connected Synology RX418 operate as though they were internal to the connected Synology NAS and can be managed directly by Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), with no additional software installation required.
Green and easy to manage
Award-winning Synology DSM provides an intuitive user interface for easy system management. Drive hibernation can be configured in DSM to take effect automatically when the system has been inactive for a period of time. This not only saves energy but also extends the lifespan of the installed drives.
