Selecting the correct mode for your home or office wireless router

AP Mode

You need one wired router connected to the internet plus one wireless router in AP mode.

Access points creates a wireless point or Wi-Fi hot spot to connect your devices to the Internet, the wireless router needs to be connected to the internet access device (a wired  router) through a network cable.

Repeater mode / Wireless range extender

You need one wireless router connected to the internet plus one wireless router in repeater mode.

In repeater mode, an Existing Wi-Fi signal is re-transmitted which extends the distance the signal is able to reach.

Media bridge

You need one wireless router connected to the internet plus one wireless router in Media bridge mode, connecting to your wired devices.

In media bridge mode, a wireless outer can be connected to any Ethernet-compatible device — such as a smart TV, multimedia player, game console or PC — to give it Wi-Fi capability. A great way to reduce cable mess!

Mesh Router or Mesh Node

You need one wireless router connected to the internet plus one or more wireless router as Mesh nodes.

Mesh devices connect to other Mesh devices to extend the coverage in a large area. The router with the highest specifications should be used as the Mesh router and the lower spec routers can be used as nodes. Mesh systems are system-specific and you cannot combine different brands.
